They say it is renewed hope
I call it dashed hope as usual.
They meanly ask us to tighten our belts;
I tell them our belts are already lacerating us:
And life is chokingly hard enough
They menacingly inform us
More deadly pills are in the offing.
I dare them: he that is down,
Need fear no fall.
They compromisingly lecture us on patience
I boldly tell them this straw
Is breaking the camel’s back.
They arrogantly brag in their obscene opulence
That they are reforming for better days.
I remind them our yesterday
Had always been better than our today.
But with outer misery and inner loneliness,
We endure the pain.
With no chance of tomorrow,
We keep hoping against hope.
They brashly conclude there is no alternative
To their poisonous pills
I sarcastically agree with them for a reason
For it is already taking the poor
Away from the evil to come.
But not far away, I hear the whispers of Moses’ hands
His wisdom echoes, across the seas
A call to Nigeria, to take its rightful stands
From Benin’s bronze to Nok’s terracotta pride
Our heritage speaks, of a people who would not divide
The drums of Ife, beat a rhythm so grand
A call to unity, in this promised land
Moses’ voice speaks, of a nation’s might
Where diversity, is the fabric of our light
He whispers secrets, of a prosperous reign
If we embrace, our differences and unite as one again
Let us heed, Moses’ call to greatness
And build a nation, where all can find their place
With peace and love, we’ll rise above the rest
And our dialogue, with the Pharaohs, will end in Moses’ blessings
