Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has expressed disappointment and concern over Nigeria’s exclusion from the Harvard Business School class of 2025 program.
Despite a Nigerian professor leading the program, Nigeria was not selected among the 16 countries for the global immersion course.
“Nigeria’s negative image was on display as Harvard Business School class of 2025 program has selected 16 countries for its global immersion course, but notably excluded Nigeria, despite the program leader being a Nigerian professor,” Obi said on Wednesday via his X handle.
He noted that Kenya, Rwanda, Morocco, and Ghana were chosen as the four African focus countries for this initiative, which aims to teach students leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural understanding by immersing them in different continents, cultures, and areas.

Obi lamented that Nigeria’s reputation and attractiveness to international institutions and investors have been severely impacted by major obvious drawbacks. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to improve its reputation and attractiveness within the global community.

“Hopefully, Nigeria will take note of these shortcomings and strive to improve its reputation and attractiveness within today’s global community. That is the challenge of the new Nigeria that remains ever possible,” Obi said.
This development is not the first time Nigeria has faced international exclusion due to its negative image. In 2022, the country was also excluded from the US visa lottery program due to high fraud rates and other security concerns.
