…Digital ID4D Project Seeks Media Partnership for Inclusive National Identity Management

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has promised that all Nigerians would be in the identity database by 2030 even as she emphasises  the importance of  collaborative relationship between the commission and the media.

Speaking on Friday at a 2-day roundtable with publishers of online newspapers in Lagos, Coker-Odusote expressed her appreciation for the support of the media and sought to foster a friendly atmosphere that would lead to more positive coverage and support.

She reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian citizen, both at home and in the diaspora, and legal residents are included in the country’s identity database by 2030.

She explained that the goal aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16.9), which aims to provide a legal form of identity to all individuals worldwide.

 

According to her, the commission is determined to achieve this objective and will not rest until every eligible individual is captured in the database.

She also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inspirational leadership and commitment to a better Nigeria, acknowledging the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project’s contributions to NIMC’s success.

The roundtable aimed to strengthen the partnership between NIMC and the media, promoting a better understanding of the commission’s goals and objectives.

In her words, “NIMC, under my watch, seeks to foster a friendly and collaborative atmosphere that will lead to more positive coverage and support from the media.

“Let me, in a very special way, thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inspirational leadership and commitment to a better Nigeria.

I also use this medium to commend the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project for its numerous supports to NIMC and for making this Roundtable possible.”

 

In the same vein, The Nigeria Digital ID4D Project has called for a collaborative effort with the media to promote an inclusive and equitable national identity management system.

Tito Ejenavi, Coordinator of the Project Implementation Unit, emphasised the importance of reversing the trend of exclusivity in the ID system, ensuring accessibility for all Nigerians regardless of socio-economic status, gender, or physical abilities.

Ejenavi acknowledged the strategic role of digital publishers in shaping narratives and influencing public perceptions, urging them to support the dissemination of accurate information about the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Digital ID4D Project.
