256 Bag First-class As UNILORIN Holds 39th Convocation

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is preparing for its 39th convocation ceremony, set to graduate 12,042 students, including 256 First Class degree holders.

 

This significant event was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, during a press briefing at the university auditorium.

Professor Egbewole stated, “For the 39th Convocation Ceremonies, the University shall be graduating a total of 12,042. In the First Degree/Diploma category, we have 256 First Class, 3,842 Second Class (Upper Division), 6,178 Second Class (Lower Division), 1,299 Third Class, and 62 Pass.”

Highlighting the diversity of disciplines, he noted that the graduates include 124 in Medicine, 64 in Nursing, and 35 in Optometry, among others.

Also, the ceremony will confer 1,875 higher degrees, comprising 92 postgraduate diplomas, 1,280 master’s degrees, 179 professional master’s degrees, one MPhil, and 323 PhDs.

Egbewole also emphasized the university’s strides in digital transformation, revealing recent enhancements such as migrating to Amazon Web Services for improved data security and efficiency. “The University of Ilorin has made remarkable progress in its digital transformation journey,” he remarked.

In terms of research achievements, he highlighted the revival of the ₦200 million Senate Research Grant, alongside 20 patents and innovations, and the recognition of the LABTOP Centre at the inaugural Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices awards in Nigeria.

Looking forward, Egbewole mentioned international collaborations in various fields, including veterinary research and mechanized farming. He cited a partnership with Professor Ramar Krishnamurthy from India, aimed at developing a drought-resistant rice variety.

“We are committed to becoming a leader in higher education in Nigeria,” he asserted, adding, “Our desire to be number one in Nigeria is on course.”
