Dr. Akintunde Ishola Ayeni (AIA), the trailblazer behind the popular YEMKEM brand of herbal products, celebrated his 60th birthday in grand style on Sunday, and it was an incredible evening of excitement, merrymaking, and showers of accolades.
The festivity was also a rare display of love, support, loyalty and gaiety as top politicians, celebrities, dignitaries, family and friends from around the world, defied hours of heavy rain showers, and trooped into Gowon Estate, inside the Ipaja area of Lagos to commemorate the extraordinary achievements of this iconic figure.
Upon observing Dr. Ayeni’s modest and serene demeanour, it would be natural to assume he is a solitary individual. However, one would be astonished to witness the vast array of vibrant personalities that gathered in the pouring rain to honour him. Yet, when one takes into account his remarkable contributions to society spanning six decades, this apparent contradiction becomes clear.
Born in Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State in the early 60s to the late Pa Dada Orimekunluyi Ayeni and Madam Elizabeth Adeoye Ayeni, Dr.Ayeni dedicated his life to making a positive impact in trado-medical practice in Nigeria, and even Africa. For the record, he single-handedly revolutionised the face of traditional medicine in this country by capsuling and improving the packaging of his herbs to meet international standards.
Alongside his accomplishments in the field of medicine, Dr. Ayeni’s philanthropic pursuits have been truly remarkable. His unwavering commitment to addressing societal issues, such as alleviating poverty, improving healthcare accessibility, and promoting environmental sustainability, has garnered awe and admiration. As a result, Dr. Ayeni has earned worldwide acclaim, receiving prestigious awards and accolades that recognise his ongoing dedication to these causes.
One of the major highlights of the evening was the introduction of the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Ayeni’s life and achievements.
Governor Adeleke acknowledged Dr. Ayeni’s stride in making many life-saving discoveries in the field of traditional medicine in Nigeria which has cured millions of various ailments. The Governor endorsed YEMKEM products and urged Dr Ayeni to come and set up a branch of his trado-medical company in Osun State.
He said “I am using their products and can testify to their potency and efficacy. it’s pertinent for all of you who are in the traditional medicine industry to rally around YEMKEM and avoid envy and jealousy so that the industry will keep growing from strength to strength”.
The Governor described YEMKEM as a very reliable friend who could be trusted with anything and prayed to God to bless the celebrant with long life and prosperity.
As the evening unfolded, additional dignitaries, friends, and colleagues graced the stage to recount tales of Dr. Ayeni’s exceptional kindness, intelligence, and steadfast dedication to improving Nigeria.
Guests were treated to a delightful array of gourmet dishes and entertained by a diverse selection of music. However, the atmosphere became electrifying, brimming with anticipation, when Gov Adeleke stepped onto the dance floor to groove and celebrate alongside the honoured guest.
In his humble speech, Dr. Ayeni expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. He emphasised the importance of giving back to the community and inspiring future generations to strive for excellence in their journeys. With the milestone of 60 years now reached, he spoke of his continued commitment to making a difference.
He said, “I thank God for giving me life this past 60 years. It has not been easy; it has been a tough journey but God has continually given me victory. I thank God for the blessing and vision to take traditional medicine to the next level all over the world. Before now traditional medicine was not recognised in Nigeria.
“But God used me to develop and transform the practice of herbal medicine. And I’m the first in Nigeria to capsulate herbal medicine. I am the first to rebrand the packaging of traditional medicine in a standard way.
“Today you can see that the practice of traditional medicine is now being welcomed by everybody regardless of their religion. I thank God for my family and loyal and supportive friends. And I pray God bless us so we also live to celebrate 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 years in good health.”
