Barring a last-minute change of mind, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to approve the appointment of Fatima Kakuri as Managing Director, Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM).

Kakuri was Special Assistant to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila while he was speaker of the House of Representatives.

This most likely appointment has further fuelled allegations of Gbajabiamila’s overbearing role in the appointment of aides to the president.

Critics have noted that she currently lives in Maitama, the Abuja guest house of Gbajabiamila, suggesting that her appointment is an undue preference and for personal reasons.

Since he assumed office as Chief of Staff to Tinubu, Gbajabiamila has been accused of struggling to find a juicy position for the Kaduna-born beautiful lady.

A section of staff in the Presidency disclosed that Gbajabiamila’s manipulation of appointments has remained a source of intense concern around the seat of power.

They point to the last of such underhand dealing as last week’s substitution of names on the approved list of the President for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), a development that allegedly irked the president to the point of scolding him.

Faced with attendant embarrassment, the development enraged the President, but in a bid to starve off bad blood in his inner circle, he had to declare his confidence in Gbajabiamila in a widely circulated video.

Tinubu had said, “First of all, let me reiterate to all of you that I’ve heard the stories flying around.

Mistakes will be made and perfection is only for God Almighty. I have 100 percent confidence in the integrity of my chief of staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamilla.

“All campaigns of calumny against him must stop. If I make mistakes, I’m ready to own up to it,” he said.
