The Concerned Sons and Daughters of Ikoga-Zebbe, Badagry, Lagos State, have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to lift the embargo on the reinstatement of Dr. Tony Dansu and four other ASUU-LASU officers wrongfully dismissed from the Lagos State University (LASU) in 2017 and 2019.

The group, in a press statement, expressed their disappointment that despite their previous appeal and peaceful rally on May 18, 2024, the Lagos State Government has yet to reinstate the five lecturers. “We are yet to see any positive result! Hence, we have to cry for justice to the public through the press once again on this same issue,” said James Babatunde Avoseh, one of the signatories to the press statement.

The group stated that the five lecturers, including Dr. Tony Dansu, were wrongfully dismissed by the previous Governing Council of LASU on frivolous charges brought against them by the university administration.

“The university still proceeded with the trials and saw them conclusively to their dismissals, despite a court ruling that stated that the university authorities have no such powers to proceed against officers of the union,” said Dr. Mayowa John Adejobi, another signatory.

The group appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to lift the embargo on the implementation of the decision of the LASU Governing Council on February 23, 2022, which reinstated the five lecturers. “We are hopeful that this first stage of our planned lawful actions will achieve our desired results, and make other follow-up actions unnecessary,” said Barr. Tinka, Gigonou Gabriel.

The group emphasized that the reinstatement of the lecturers is a matter of justice and fairness, and that their dismissal has been a disservice to the community and humanity at large.

“Dr. Tony Dansu is a proud Ogu son from Ikoga-Zebbe Kingdom, Badagry Lagos State, and his malicious disengagement with the four others from the university is a disservice to our community, Badagry and Lagos State; and to humanity at large,” said Ademola Akoteyon Bokoh.
