The Federal Government has launched an investigation into the use of Russian flags by protesters in the north, with at least four northern politicians suspected of involvement.

Security agencies are investigating the politicians, who hail from Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano states, for their alleged role in promoting the use of Russian flags among protesters. Sources revealed that the politicians, who played prominent roles in the 2023 election, are being accused of fanning the embers of an unconstitutional regime change.

One source stated, “Four principal actors have been identified in this issue. They are top politicians from Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna, and the security agencies are closing in on them.”

Another source disclosed, “There is evidence of external influence mainly involving the politicians who are conniving with a West African and European country to cause mayhem and promote the use of the flags we are seeing.”

The use of Russian flags by protesters in the north has raised concerns about external influence and the potential for violence.

The protests, which began as a demonstration against hardship and hunger, have taken a dangerous turn with the introduction of Russian flags and calls for an unconstitutional regime change.

The Federal Government has placed the sponsors of the protests on a watchlist, and the Court has restricted protests to two venues in Lagos. The organizers of the protests have suspended the demonstration in Lagos.
