Paris 2024 Olympics: Amusan begins medal quest today

Nigeria’s track queen, Tobi Amusan will begin her quest for an Olympic medal at the Stade de France on Wednesday (today).

 

Amusan announced herself to the world three years ago in Tokyo but missed out on a podium finish, finishing fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The 27-year-old set a new world record in the event (12.12s) at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

 

The dark-skinned athlete will be looking to add an Olympic medal to her proud collection.

Amusan is the current Commonwealth and African champion in the 100 m hurdles, as well as the meet record holder in those two competitions.

 

She is also the current Diamond league champion, achieving a winning streak in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

 

Amusan will face stiff competition from a strong field of elite athletes, including Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the defending Olympic champion.
