No fewer than 16 people have been killed and 3,936 houses destroyed in Jigawa State due to flooding, the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed. The agency’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Haruna Mariga, stated that the flood also submerged 2,744 hectares of farmland, affecting 10 local government areas in the state.
Mariga attributed the deaths to building collapses, drowning, and canoe mishaps. He warned that the situation might escalate due to anticipated high rainfall. The agency has provided temporary shelter and distributed relief materials to displaced persons.
