The Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, has written to the Ministry of Finance to request the release of four months’ worth of withheld salaries for university workers under SSANU and NASU.
This follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval during the Federal Executive Council meeting on July 10, 2024.
The President had authorized the payment of four months’ salary out of the eight months initially withheld after university workers embarked on an eight-month-long strike in 2022.
While ASUU members have already received their payments, SSANU and NASU members have yet to receive their four-month salary payments.
Despite the Ministry of Finance receiving a letter from Sununu on July 11, 2024, no funds have been released to date, causing frustration among NASU and SSANU members.
The Minister’s letter reminded the Finance Ministry of the President’s directive and requested immediate implementation.
