A 400-level student of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State, Oluwaseyi Adebayo, has died after falling into a fishpond while hiking with colleagues. The incident occurred on August 10 when Adebayo slipped from a hilltop and landed in the fishpond.
Locals refused to release the corpse until rituals were performed to prevent a similar occurrence from happening to his colleagues. The university authority initially refused to comply but eventually, concerned individuals intervened and paid the required amount and provided a white ram for the sacrifice.
The university’s spokesperson, Lydia Legbo, denied knowledge of the incident, while the Student Union Government confirmed the incident and expressed condolences.
The police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, said the matter was not reported to the police.
