The family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the late designer of Nigeria’s national flag, has finally laid him to rest after waiting over a year for a promised state funeral that never materialized.
Despite the Federal Government’s initial promise, the family was left to bear the costs of keeping the late patriot’s body in a morgue, paying 2,000 Naira daily.
The Oyo State Government eventually stepped in to fund the burial rites, which took place in Ibadan, the late Akinkunmi’s birthplace.
The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, urged the Federal Government to give Akinkunmi the honor he deserves, recognizing his legacy as the creator of a key national symbol.
