The recent flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, has left a trail of destruction and death, prompting the Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) to call for immediate action from the government.

The flood has resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property, with many residents, including media workers and scholars, displaced and forced into emergency camps.

Dr. Solomon A. Oyeleye, General Secretary of ACSPN in a statement on Sunday said, “We are distressed by the devastating impact of the flood, which has resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. We commend the swift response of the government, but we urge that no efforts be spared until all victims are attended to and safe.”

“The federal and state governments should accord immediate and specific attention to the gapping needs and plights of the families of media professionals and scholars in the flood-ravaged environment,” Oyeleye urged.

Furthermore, ACSPN is urging the government to take long-term measures to address flooding across Nigeria, safeguarding citizens’ lives and property.

“We call on the federal and state governments to redouble their efforts in dealing with the issue of flooding across Nigeria as a way of continually safeguarding the lives and property of citizens,” Oyeleye said.
