The African Action Congress (AAC) has strongly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its management of the ongoing Edo elections, alleging significant irregularities that undermine democratic principles.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday signed by its National Publicity Secretary,  Femi Adeyeye.

The party expressed concern over the low voter turnout, reportedly at just 22.45%, which they claim contrasts sharply with inflated figures posted on INEC’s iRev portal.

An example highlighted by the AAC includes a polling unit where 213 individuals were officially accredited, yet the results indicated that 352 votes were cast for the APC, raising suspicions of manipulation.  https://iresults.incportals.com/cached/express/results/2798/12/232/2679/34895/f8518dab-5008-41b1-8d1f-82eaabe9a1dd_thumb.jpg

The AAC also condemned the involvement of political patronage in the elections, accusing major parties like the APC and PDP of exploiting public institutional failures for political gain, further eroding trust in the electoral process.

The party pointed to a video circulating online showing the state governor being escorted from the collation center by police, while an APC supporter, known as Tony Kabaka, remained present with a group of militants.

In response to these events, the AAC is calling for immediate action, including mass protests to demand transparency and fairness in the electoral system. The party insists that restoring integrity to Nigeria’s elections is crucial for good governance and public confidence.

National Publicity Secretary of the AAC, stated that urgent measures must be taken to reject the ongoing electoral process and ensure accountability within the electoral commission.
