Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has revised the bail conditions for five #EndBadGovernance protesters, reducing the amount from N10 million to N5 million each.
This decision comes after the defendants struggled to meet the original requirements set by the court.
Marshall Abubakar, the defense counsel for three of the defendants, highlighted the difficulties faced in securing sureties with the necessary landed property in Abuja. The court’s initial ruling, issued on September 11, had mandated a total bail of N100 million for all ten defendants, requiring one surety for each.
The new ruling allows the five defendants to secure their release with a significantly lowered bail, while still requiring a close relative to serve as the surety.

Justice Nwite emphasized that the surety must be a parent or other blood relative residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
The ten defendants—Michael Adaramoye (Lenin), Adeyemi Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Simon, Angel Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair—are facing serious charges including treason and conspiracy to commit a felony. They pleaded not guilty to all charges, which involve allegations of attempting to force their way into power, inciting public unrest, and damaging government property.
Following the appeal for bail variation, Justice Nwite stated, “The bail is hereby granted to the defendants in the sum of N5 million each, with one surety in the same amount.” He stressed the importance of complying with all conditions set forth by the court.
