Covenant University has been named the best university in the world by the World University Rankings conducted by the Times Higher Education (THE).
Covenant is ranked among the top 801-1000 according to the 2025 rankings released on Wednesday. In the 2025 rankings, the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria came second, displacing the University of Ibadan which occupied the position for the 2024 rankings.
Ahmadu Bello University, is ranked between 1001–1200. Other Nigerian universities ranked between 1001-1200 are Landmark University, University of Ibadan, and University of Lagos.

Meanwhile, Federal University of Technology, Akure is among the 1201 and 1500 in the world. Others in this category are Federal University of Technology, Minna, University of Benin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ilorin, Ilorin.
Nigerian universities ranked among 1500+ include Ekiti State University and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Obafemi Awolowo Univerisity, Nnamdi Azikwe University.
