A 34-year-old Australian woman is in critical condition following a brutal dog attack in Townsville, Queensland, where her right arm was severed below the elbow. Emergency services were alerted around 7:00 AM local time on Friday and found the woman with life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics managed to retrieve the severed limb before transporting her to a local hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Upon arrival, police encountered the aggressive dog, believed to be a pit bull, which prompted officers to shoot it after it attempted to attack.

Senior Sergeant Scott Warrick described the scene as “very angry, very aggressive,” noting that this was the most severe dog-related injury he had ever witnessed in his 37 years of service.

Animal control officers advised the dog’s euthanasia, while a second, smaller dog found at the scene was unharmed and is now under the care of the RSPCA.

Neighbors reported that the aggressive dog had a history of violent behavior, with one showing scars from a previous attack.
