Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended Oguejiofor Simonpeter, a returnee from Thailand, for attempting to smuggle 13.30kg of heroin valued at over N3.19 billion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The arrest occurred on October 7, 2024, as Oguejiofor was about to exit the airport with the drugs concealed in six backpacks within two large suitcases. He had arrived in Lagos on October 5 after a layover in Doha, where he had rerouted his luggage to Nigeria to evade security checks.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, a thorough search revealed the heroin sewn into the backpacks. Oguejiofor disclosed that he was promised $7,000 for successfully delivering the drugs to Nigeria and Ghana, with two parcels intended for Lagos and four for Accra.
