In a shocking incident that has left the community reeling, gunmen opened fire in Ifite Awka, Anambra State, this morning, resulting in multiple fatalities among students.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attack, which occurred around 9:00 AM, may be connected to ongoing cult-related violence in the area.

A student who witnessed the harrowing scene reported, “Gunmen shot a man just moments ago in Ifite, Awka.

This attack follows closely on the heels of a similar incident in Nibo, where at least 12 individuals lost their lives in cult-related violence just days earlier.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed that a police response team has been deployed to the area.

While he did not directly address the incident, he emphasized ongoing investigations into intercepted videos and voice notes circulating on social media that threaten public safety.

“The Anambra State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order,” Ikenga stated. “We are intensifying patrols and enhancing surveillance to ensure that no individual or group can infringe on the rights of others.”
