What Tinubu Told Mamman, Uju Ohanenye, Other Ministers Before Sacking Them – Presidency

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has informed recently dismissed ministers of their exits in a manner described as respectful and deliberate, marking a shift from previous abrupt dismissals that were often communicated via public announcements.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, explained during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” that the changes affecting five ministers and the reassignment of ten others stemmed from a thorough performance evaluation.

This process was overseen by Hadiza Usman, the Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, who utilized technology and citizen feedback to assess ministerial effectiveness.

Onanuga stated, “The president did not just change his ministers whimsically. The change went through some procedure. From October last year, the president had communicated to the ministers that they would be assessed.”

The ministers affected by the reshuffle include Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development).

Onanuga clarified that the assessment process incorporated public opinion, allowing Nigerians to score their ministers based on performance. He noted, “It was on that basis that the president acted upon.”

He further emphasized the president’s approach during the dismissals, highlighting that Tinubu expressed gratitude for the ministers’ contributions and wished them well, contrasting with previous practices of public firings. “He was very polite and told them about his decision. He thanked them for their services to the country,” Onanuga remarked.
