The Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Monday said candidates who could not generate their profile code because of poor network or delayed response from telecommunication service providers would get a refund.

Oloyede, who stated this after a meeting with stakeholders at the headquarters of the board in Bwari, said the service providers and the JAMB agreed on the refund.

According to him, this does not apply to candidates who entered the wrong code while trying to generate their profile codes.

This was in response to the outcry from parents of applicants for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) because they could not create their profile codes despite being charged for the service.

Each Short Message Service (SMS) cost N50 on the major telecoms service providers.

Oloyede lamented that parents were being extorted by telecoms service providers by sending request unsuccessfully to the telcoms.

He said the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission had been drafted in to monitor the refund.

He said all those concerned would have to go back and ensure that a service is not fully rendered and there had been any charge made, “this should be refunded to the candidates.”

He said by Friday, candidates would have the option of using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data to generate their profile codes.
