The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike-Ikwo, Ebonyi State on Wednesday protested the failure of the federal government to implement the 2020 Memorandum of Action, MOA with the union.
The protesters tasked the federal government to stop the use of the Integrated personnel payroll information system, IPPIS, lamenting that lecturers are highly impoverished through the use of IPPIS.
The protesters carried placards with the; “FGN you will not rest until outstanding issues are resolved, FGN is unserious with the implementation of UTAS, comrades say no to amputated salaries and withheld of allowances.
“FGN, we are tired of your deceit; Government is unconcerned, unresponsive to the development of ASUU, FGN listen to the words of wisdom and salvage the university system, Etc”.
The chairman and secretary of ASUU, Ogugua Egwu and Joseph Chukwu who spoke with journalists shortly after the protest said “we are matching against the evil in government who in their wickedness has deprived us of all the goodies we should have been enjoying. We represent the crop of people who produce, develop, train and assist the future leaders of our country Nigeria.
“Here, we are looking hungry and haggard, suffering and smiling under poor working conditions. Why should we smile when our government has abandoned the whole essence of trading the future leaders. We shall not keep quiet and that’s why we are here to match to progress, to the signing and implementation of the renegotiated agreement between ASUU and the federal government. We are here to match against the evil called IPPIS” he stated.
