The Anambra Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Valentine Ozigbo, has fingered the current government–both state and federal–as the cause of violence and other extremist adoptions of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The PDP candidate said this at the Anambra Governorship Election debate hosted by Arise News TV on Monday, monitored by AF24News.

The three governorship candidates; All Progressives Grand Alliance’s Chukwuma Soludo; Peoples Democratic Party candidate Valentine Ozigbo, and the All Progressives congress’ Andy Uba, are all present at the debate.

When the governorship candidates were asked about their stance on IPOB’s agitation, Ozigbo said, “In life, I’ve seen good men do wrong things and wrong men do good things. Its always good to get to the activities of any group or any person and support what is good and condemn what is wrong. There are certain things (about IPOB agitation) that I support, and when it gets to the extreme, I condemn.

“The real issue here is, where is the heart of all of this? I can tell you, if not for the way the current government–state and federal–handled the IPOB, we won’t get to where we are today. Let’s start by accepting responsibility. We created the extremism,” he said.

Meanwhile, Soludo reiterated his commitment to calling for dialogue with the secessionist group, whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is currently remanded by the Department of State Services for trial on terrorism charges.

“I am on record to have also said that the IPOB deserves to be heard. The idea of the agitation cannot be shut down by a gun. You know what they are agitating for. We need to have a dialogue, bring everybody to the table and discuss those specific issues,” Soludo said.

Earlier in the debate, Ozigbo had acussed APGA (the ruling party in Anambra) and the APC for the challenges in the Southeast.
