A cleric, Reverend Faithful Monday Okhueleigbe (FMO) IYERE has on Sunday morning said that God is Almighty and there’s no need to defend him or his prophets because he needs no man to fight for him.

Reacting to the lynching of Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State which happened last Thursday, the Foursquare Gospel Church Zonal leader in Lagos said God is not dead, and men should not fight for him.

Recall that there have been tension in many parts of the country following the gruesome murder of the Christian student, who was burnt alive over alleged blasphemy on Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

Iyere made reference to a situation in the bible in “when the Philistines took the Ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon, a philistine god.” (1 Samuel 5:1-12)

Dagon is a god worshipped by the Philistines, represented as half man and half fish.

“And it came to pass, when the people of Ashdod arose early the following day, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And the people took Dagon, and set him in his place again.”

“And again, when they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.”

With these words, the man of God encouraged the congregation that God still fights for himself and we must not take his place because he is not weak or manly.

Concluding his sermon, he clarified further in the scriptures that “Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.”

“But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.”
