In a decisive raid on the Emerald Hotel in Oshodi, Lagos State, operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted four individuals attempting to smuggle cocaine to Saudi Arabia.
The suspects, intending pilgrims to the ongoing Hajj, were caught ingesting cocaine wraps ahead of their flight on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Acting on intelligence, NDLEA officers arrested Usman Kamorudeen (31), Olasunkanmi Owolabi (46), Fatai Yekini (38), and Ayinla Kemi (34). The suspects, housed in two hotel rooms, were preparing to swallow 200 cocaine pellets weighing 2.20 kilograms. Each room contained 100 wraps of the Class A drug, with two suspects ready to ingest 100 wraps each.

Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman and CEO of the NDLEA, lauded the Lagos State Command’s officers for their efficient operation. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to tracking and apprehending individuals attempting to misuse the pilgrimage for illicit activities, thus protecting the country’s image.
Moreover, Marwa highlighted ongoing cooperation with Saudi authorities to identify and prosecute the intended recipients of the seized drugs in Saudi Arabia, ensuring comprehensive action against this smuggling network.
