CBN begins cash swap in Sokoto, says extension aimed at rural dwellers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has begun its cash swap programme for three redesigned naira notes in Sokoto, in the North-West geopolitical zone of the country.

CBN Branch Controller in Sokoto, Dahiru Usman advised residents of the state to take advantage of the 10 days extension to swap their old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes with new ones.

He gave the advice at the Gumbi District in the Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto during the rural community currency swap that was introduced by the apex bank.

He encouraged the people to join other Nigerians in helping the Federal Government to achieve its cashless policy for the benefit of all citizens.

Usman said the exercise was aimed at enabling rural dwellers easy access to replace the old notes with the new ones as most rural areas lack bank facilities.

He described the cash swap exercise as most successful strategy in ensuring the new naira notes get to residents in rural communities.
