E-learning: NOUN to sanction erring lecturers -Vice Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, has mandated the active participation of its staff in the e-learning programme.

Speaking at the virtual inauguration ceremony of NOUN Oracle Academy organised by the Department of Computer Science on Tuesday, the VC said none of its lecturers had any excuse for not engaging in online interaction with students on regular basis.

According to Adamu, all facilities and structures to enable its academic staff interact with students online have been put in place by the university. He said that NOUN, being a world class Open and Distance Learning (ODL) University have in place, facilities to create enabling platforms for seamless online facilitation, referring to the Directorate of Learning Contents Management System (LCMS) set up by the institution.

“Any lecturer in the National Open University of Nigeria who failed to interact with their students via online facilitation should either look for a College of Education to go and teach or resign and start selling foodstuff in the market,” he said.

 

He said that NOUN by its foundational philosophy and mode of operation was not supposed to be hindered in discharging its responsibilities amidst the lockdown, if its lecturers were committed to work, adding that the activities of all academic staff of the institution would be monitored and erring lecturers would be sanctioned accordingly.
