Nigerians have called on the South-West governors to go beyond issuing orders and ultimatums to putting in place laws that will curb the activities of killer herdsmen in the region.
The calls came after the Presidency faulted the ultimatum that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu issued to Fulani herders to vacate the Ondo State forest reserves within seven days.
While issuing the order to herders on Monday, Akeredolu said the activities of the herdsmen have long been posing a threat to security in the state.
He said among other things, “All Forest Reserves in the State are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next 7 days with effect from today, Monday 18th January 2021.”
Social media pages of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, respondents said that the South-West governors need laws to cage the activities of killer herdsmen.
On Twitter, 4, 887 users voted and 93.4 per cent of them said yes to the question, “Should South-West govs enact laws to cage killer herdsmen?”
On our Facebook Stories, where the poll was hosted, 85.4 per cent of the 719 respondents agreed that laws needed to be enacted to cage killer herders in the South-West.
Instagram users also voted along the same line as 87 per cent of the respondents said they agree with enacting new laws.

A Twitter user, Adeola Saba said, “They should emulate the Gov of Benue State who enacted such a law and put steps in place to enforce the law and they should empower Amotekun too.”
Chika Nwabueze, another respondent pointed out that the law was not only needed in the South-West but all the regions where the activities of killer herders need to be stopped.
He tweeted, “All regions affected, not only the South-West.
