The Nigerian comedy industry celebrated the maiden edition of the Nigeria Comedy Awards on Sunday at the Eko Conference Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

 

Some of the biggest comedy stars like Layi Wasabi, Taooma, and Broda Shagi were recognised for their talents, as Nollywood stars were also awarded plaques.

The PUNCH reports that the event was created to honour outstanding performers and projects in the comedy industry.

Blending with old, new actors God’s doing – Sola Sobowale

The event was organised by an experienced team headed by the founder of Afrotainment, Bunmi Davies (event producer); Executive Director, Royal Roots Communication Network, Debbie Odutayo (Project Consultant); Managing Director, Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, and Managing Director, WapTV, Wole Adenuga, as executive producers.

 

TV personality, Bukunmi Adeaga Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, hosted the event. The special guest performers were veteran singers 2Baba and 9ice, as well as comedian, Akpororo.

Best Standup Comedian (Male)- Basket Mouth

Best stand-up comedian(Female) – Helen Paul

Best Comedy Movie – Passport

Best Comedy Actor Series/Movie (Female) – Mercy Johnson (Passport)

Best Comedy Actor, Series/Movie (Male) – Broda Shagi (Face to Face)

Best Comedy Kid category (Male/Female) – Kiriku

Best Comedy Cartoonist – Dada Adekola (Mr. and Mrs.; Vanguard Newspaper). He was also awarded a prize of N1,000,000.

Recognition award – Sola Sobowale

Best Comedy Skit-maker (Male)- Mr Macaroni

Best Comedy Skit Maker (Female) – Taaooma

Revelation of the Year Award – Layi Wasabi (Prize money of N1,000,000)

Posthumous award – Late Gbenga Adeboye (Daughter receives the award on behalf of her dad and a grand prize of N1,000,000)

Posthumous Award – Late Sam Loco Efe (A grand prize of N1,000,000)

WapTV Special Award – Akpan and Oduma
