Govt urged to incorporate sex education in school curriculum

A Non-Governmental organisation, Child Aid Sponsorship Awareness Foundation (CASAF) has advised the government to incorporate sex education in school curriculum to curtail the rising  cases of sexual harassment in the country.

CASAF spoke  in a statement issued on Friday and  signed by the Coordinator, Child Aid and Sponsorship Awareness Foundation, Temitope Obitunwase, and seven others,  at the end of a two-day webinar,

The webinar, titled, “Sexual health education: Steering effective communications between guardians and their children,” was hosted by Mrs Toun Sonaiya.

Guest speakers who graced the virtual seminar included Mrs Bola Tinubu, Founder Trustee Cece Yara Foundation; a sexual reproductive health analyst, Elizabeth Williams and Anthonia Ojenabon.

It read partly, “The government is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that proper systems are in place for infusing sexual health education into school curriculum across all school tiers.

“The government is also urged to activate and enforce security measures that allow effective prosecution of sex offenders.”

The NGOs were advised to work collaboratively in ensuring that advocacy, enlightenment and awareness efforts were intensified.

The wives of governors of Kebbi State, Dr Zainab Bagudu; Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; and Niger State, Dr Amina Bello, were said to have participated in the webinar.
