INEC Promotes 5196 Staff, Directs Four Directors to Retire

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the promotion of 5,196 staff members across various levels nationwide, following the successful completion of the 2023 promotion examination and evaluation.

The announcement was made by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun mni, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

In a significant career advancement within the Commission, 55 Deputy Directors on Grade Level 16 have ascended to the position of Directors on Grade Level 17.

Additionally, 54 Assistant Directors on Grade Level 15 have been elevated to the Deputy Director cadre on Grade Level 16.

The promotion exercise also saw 338 officers on Grade Level 14 rise to the rank of Assistant Directors on Grade Level 15.

The majority of the promotions affected 4,749 officers ranging from Grade Levels 7 to 13. In a related development, the Commission has instructed four Directors to commence terminal leave.

This directive aligns with a Federal Government circular issued on July 27, 2023, mandating all Directors who have served 8 years or more to retire from the public sector.

Mr. Olumekun disclosed that two of the Directors on terminal leave were previously Heads of Departments at INEC’s Headquarters in Abuja, while the other two served as Administrative Secretaries in State Offices.

He also noted an exemption for Clinical Officers in the Medical cadre from the Federal Government Retirement Policy, as specified in a circular dated September 7, 2023.

The IVEC Chairman extended the Commission’s best wishes to the retiring Directors for their future endeavors.
