A former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Prophet Samuel Abiara, has condemned the rousing comments by some leaders on the herdsmen crisis in the country, saying they should refrain from using utterance that could plunge the country further into crisis.

The cleric, who spoke to Sunday PUNCH in an interview, said that he was organising a national prayer from March 1st to 3rd in order to seek the face of God concerning the carnage, and abductions that are currently plaguing the country.

The programme titled ‘New Year Blessings’ with the theme ‘God Answers Prayer’ is scheduled to be held at the CAC auditorium in Abuja.

“For some years, what has been happening in Nigeria is not good enough. Satan is troubling this nation. It’s only by prayer that peace will reign. It’s not a matter of guns or bombs because Isaiah 45:7 says, ‘I make darkness and calamity, and I, the Lord God, do these things,” he said.

“God who created calamity and peace is the one we must pray to, to save this country from the hand of the Devil. It is the Devil that uses many people to attack one another. That is why we are going to Abuja to pray in order that peace will reign in this country.”

Concerning calls for the restructuring of the nation, Abiara said democracy is supposed to be in respect to the will of the majority. He also criticized comments by the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, saying herdsmen carried AK-47 for self-defence.

“Majority carries the vote. My own opinion is that what the people want is that the leader must listen to them. The majority must carry the vote when they come to a roundtable to discuss all these things.

“I believe the army is the only one authorized to carry AK-47 rifles. But for the herdsmen to be carrying guns, I believe that it’s not okay. For governors to empower the herdsmen to do that, I believe that it’s not okay. As far as I’m concerned, leaders should refrain from saying things that can lead to more problems in Nigeria,” he said.

The cleric also spoke concerning the 2023 elections, noting that he was more concerned about the security situation of the country at present.

He, therefore, admonished leaders positioning themselves for the forthcoming elections to instead work on restoring peace in the country.

“What I am concerned about right now is not the 2023 elections. The whole country is on fire. There is no security. Killings and kidnappings are rampant. There is no power. Let this government right now restore peace.

“As far as I’m concerned, we are praying for this country because only God can save us until that time. So, we don’t know what is going to happen to every one of them that is in the struggle for power in 2023. The government was voted into power to defend the people and their property.”
