Prof. Folashade Ogunshola, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, has emphasised the importance of learning from the U.S. electoral system during an event organised by the U.S. Consulate-General.

She highlighted transparency, accountability, and inclusivity as key lessons for Nigeria’s democratic practices.

Speaking at the event themed “Democracy in Action: Understanding the U.S. Electoral Process,” Ogunshola urged students and faculty to engage in promoting democratic values on campus.

The discussion comes ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election on November 5, where Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are the main candidates.

Experts at the event noted similarities between Nigeria’s and the U.S.’s political systems, advocating for improvements in Nigeria’s electoral processes, such as early voting and enabling the diaspora to vote.
