N’Delta Development Force warns of imminent attacks if federal influence undermines local authorities

The Niger Delta Development Force, a militant group operating in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, has issued a stern ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, threatening to shut down key oil installations if Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, continues to interfere in the governance of Rivers State.

In a statement released on Sunday, group spokesperson Justin Alabraba accused Wike of using the judiciary to sabotage the administration of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The militants claim that Wike’s actions have sought to financially cripple local governments, thereby hindering their ability to serve the populace effectively.

“We will not hesitate to respond. We will act swiftly, shutting down key oil facilities in the Niger Delta,” Alabraba stated.

“If President Tinubu allows Wike to interfere with local governance in Rivers, we will disrupt governance nationwide. It’s time for Wike to back off from Fubara.”

The group expressed deep frustration over Wike’s alleged bullying of Governor Fubara and emphasized that they would not stand idly by as the former governor undermines his successor.

“For months, Wike has insulted and bullied Governor Fubara. We won’t allow this any longer. Any further move against Fubara will lead to the destruction of oil facilities,” they warned.

The militants’ statement reflects a growing tension in Rivers State, where local governance and federal influence have become contentious issues.

They assert that any judicial ruling detrimental to Rivers State’s finances would trigger a serious response, asserting, “This is not a threat, but a commitment. Enough is enough; Wike and Tinubu can no longer disregard us.”
