Mr Emmanuel Ige literarily walked into the dark valleys of death and survived to tell the story.

Ige was kidnapped by ritual killers along the streets of Yaba, Lagos State. He was unconscious when they took him far away from his home, into their murderous enclave, where he stayed for almost 14 days, and experienced first-hand torture, agony, tears and the savagery of the killers.

In an exclusive interview with Af24news, Mr Ige said the killers came and cast an evil spell that hypnotized him until he found himself tied up and blindfolded inside the kidnappers’ den.

He said, “My ordeal happened on the 15th of January 2021 at about 4:30 pm precisely. On that fateful day, my friend who is a repairman came to my house at Queens Street, Alagomeji area of Yaba. He came to fix our washing machine, after which I escorted him to the bus stop. I was coming back to my house when  this Sienna space bus drove directly towards me.

“I noticed that they were four inside the Sienna, two young men of about 30 or 40 years, and an elderly man and woman. They greeted me and asked me to show them how they could get to Ojota Tollgate.

“The elderly woman spoke to me in Yoruba. She greeted me and spoke to me in a soft tone, and also asked me the route to Ojota.

“So I told them that they are on the right track, and showed them the best route to get to Ojota.”

Wolves in sheep’s clothing:

Mr Ige never knew that the two young men and the elderly persons were all wolves in sheep’s clothing. He had no clue that their gentle greetings were a ploy to ensnare him into hell.

“My answer to the strangers was the last thing I could remember. My mind went blank. I can’t remember anything anymore. I don’t know how I got into their car. I don’t know how and whether they cast their spell on me, and then pulled or commanded me into their car. I don’t know,” he said.

“When I gained consciousness again, I noticed that my eyes had been blindfolded, and my hands and legs were all tied up. I didn’t know where I was. I was wondering what was going on when I heard people crying around me. Different voices were all crying in the room they kept me. It was then I knew something was wrong. So I started praying.

“After some hours one of the kidnappers came in and saw me praying and said ‘Oh, you want to show us you’re a son of God here, and that you know how to pray’ they began to slap me mercilessly over 15 times. It was then I knew I was in trouble.

“One of the men went out and brought a stick. They stuck the stick across my mouth and tied my mouth to make sure I couldn’t speak anymore. but I kept praying in my heart.

“I noticed the days and nights kept passing. After about five or six days, I started noticing some things. I noticed that our abductors would come in and take one person among us. I noticed that the person they took was never brought back into the room.

“On the ninth day, they came and took a particular lady behind me. I noticed her because she had been crying all through the time I was there. The abductors came and dragged her out as she cried louder. After a while, I heard her scream so loud. Her scream was heavy and deadly.

“Then after a while, after about 30 minutes, I heard them matcheting something on a table. It sounded like butchers cutting meat on a slab. It was then I understood that they had killed the lady. It also dawned on me that our abductors are ritual killers that cut people’s body parts to sell.

“I was scared but I continued to pray in my heart. I asked God not to make me a victim to ritual killers. I thought of my wife, my three children, my mother and my life.”

Life inside killers’ den:

Recounting his experience inside the kidnappers’ den, Ige told Af24news that the killers spoke in codes and three languages all through the moment he was in captivity.

He said, “They came one time and offered me water, but I didn’t drink their water.

“I noticed that they spoke English, Yoruba and Hausa fluently. They didn’t call each other’s real names, rather they called each other by code names like Terminator, Predator, Iron man, Iron lady, Commando, Killerman and Vampire.

“Also they refer to their captives as ‘goats’, and use code numbers for the body parts they want to collect. Example number one is the term they use for a human head. so inside there you’ll hear them just say ‘Terminator, give that number one’ or ‘Predator a beg give me that number six and four’,” Ige added.

Delivered from darkness

After days of witnessing how captives were taken and never brought back, Ige’s turn came on the 12th day.

According to Ige, he reminisced on his life as his captors took him away to be slaughtered.

“When they came to take me. I was frightened. And as they dragged me, I gave up and said it was all over for me. But again I told God that I didn’t want to die a shameful death. I asked God why. All my life, I’ve tried my best to be upright in everything I do. I avoid dealings that would tarnish my conscience.

“They took me to another room, where I heard a strange voice that I had never heard before among them. The voice was deep and was making some incantations. He was shaking something that sounded like a tambourine. He shook and hit it on my chest. I was frozen in fear. my heartbeat was fast.

But I refused to give up and started praying and proclaiming Jesus in my heart.

“Once again, I heard the man shake his tambourine and hit my chest. I heard mumbling in Yoruba. He sounded confused.

“So he shook the tambourine again and hit my head, and then screamed ‘No! No!! No!!! I don’t want to see this one here. Please take this man away from here now’.

“I heard the other men asking why they can’t kill me after the risks they took to bring me. One of them suggested that they should rather kill me and throw my body away instead of releasing me.

“But the man shaking the tambourine shouted at them again, ‘Quickly, take this man away. His presence is spoiling my charms.’ He told them that if they shoot me that they would die instead. He ordered them to return all they took from me and release me immediately.

“That incident made me realise that God had arrived to save me.

“They took me away to another room and left me there till later in the midnight. I heard the sound of their vehicle. They came and started beating me as they pushed me inside their car and drove off.

“They drove for almost two hours till they got to the spot where they finally stopped the car. They opened the door, untied my hands and my face, pushed me out of their car and sped off. I could not see clearly after they removed the veil on my face, but I could hear them drive off at top speed.

“I found myself on a lonely road. I didn’t know where I was, so I had to hide inside a bush. I stayed there till dawn when I began to notice the movement of people. When I came out many people were running away, they thought I was a mad man. But I approached a man that was dressed up for church with his family. It was from their appearance that I knew that day was on a Sunday. The man listened to my story.”

Ige did not know the day but also realised he was in Sagamu. “I asked him to take me to any Redeemed Church around. He helped arrange a bike to take me to a Redeemed Church Headquarters in their area,” he said.

“When I got there and introduced myself to the church leaders, there was a senior police officer in the church that came and interrogated me, after which they helped to contact my family.”

According to Ige, the news of his rescue was announced at his church in Fola Agoro which led overjoyed church leaders to troop to Sagamu in a convoy of about 12 cars to come to see him.
