A tragic incident occurred on Friday at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of a newlywed wife, Olajumoke, allegedly at the hands of her husband, Motunrayo Olaniyi.
The couple engaged in a heated argument, leading to Olaniyi stabbing his 25-year-old wife multiple times, locking her in their room, and setting it on fire.
In an attempt to conceal his actions, Olaniyi also inflicted wounds on himself.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that police from the Ikorodu Division responded to a distress call, extinguished the fire, and discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with abdominal wounds. Olaniyi was rescued, treated, and discharged from a nearby hospital before being taken into police custody.
The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Olaniyi stabbed his wife during the altercation and inflicted minor wounds on himself.
The corpse has been deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and an investigation is ongoing.
