1. Detectives attached to the Lagos State police command have arrested a 64-year-old herbalist, Sola Kazeem, and two others for allegedly possessing a human head. The police claimed that the three suspects, who operate an illegal security outfit named Citizens for Peace and First Aid Mission of Nigeria, allegedly severed the head of a corpse buried within their office environment in Ikorodu.

2. Arewa leader in the South, Alhaji Musa Saidu, has reiterated his call on President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute a board for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, saying it will be appreciated by the Niger Deltans as a worthy new year gift this January.

3. A three-storey building has gone up in flames on New year’s day in Surulere, Lagos State, after suspected electrical appliances exploded shortly after power supply was restored to the building. As of 5pm yesterday, there were no casualty figures reported yet but property worth millions of naira have been lost to the sudden inferno.

4. There was celebration’s galore for thousands of people of Damasak in northern Borno when the 5 Brigade Nigerian Army hosted the West African Social Activities, popularly known as WASA for the first time ever in the town, which was once overrun by Boko Haram but recaptured by troops.

5. For allegedly using the Internet to deceive a number of ladies on Internet and allegedly having sex with them, the police in Katsina have arrested a 31-year-old man in Kano. Journalists were told yesterday that the suspect, Usama Tijjani is a resident of Dorayi Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

6. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reported a minor fire incident at the Port Harcourt Refinery on New Year’s Day. NNPC in a statement explained that the incident was contained in less than two hours, adding that it was caused by a spark while a 33,000-litre truck was discharging naphtha into a tank at the PHRC.

7. Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his ‘silence’ on the invasion of Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili’s residence, saying that most of the problems Nigeria faced were because of lack of leadership. Governor Wike who spoke on Saturday said that he was praying for a special New Year for Nigeria.

8. Nigerian Air Force ( NAF) has allegedly killed scores of bandits in Zamfara forests, including a king pin, Alhaji Auta. Report has it that Auta, aka king of bandits, was so notorious in the Birnin Magaji area of Zamfara State, where he and his men had made life unbearable to many peasants.

9. The death toll for Lassa Fever in Nigeria from January 2021 has jumped to 92, with Bauchi and Ebonyi States recording new deaths. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed this on Tuesday in its latest situation report on the outbreak of the disease in the country.

10. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said the N30bn Revitalisation Fund and N22.5bn Earned Academic Allowance totalling N52.5bn released by the FG is not enough to deal with the challenges facing the university system. The ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, noted in an interview that there was a possibility that the union would still go on strike, unless the government addressed its demands, including the 2009 agreement.
