A Nigerian woman identified as Nwamaka Oparaoji has taken to the social media to narrate how she finally bags her doctoral degree after suffering for many years in the US.
Oparaoji, who took to her LinkedIn page to share her story, said she made it against all odds. According to her, she travelled to the United States with a bachelor’s degree and worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken drive-through window.
Celebrating her feat, she said, “I waited for so long to wear this gown with 3 stripes on both arms. I think it fits.”
According to her story, she lost her father at the eight of nine. She said she made $50 per week, took three buses to work and got paid $5.60 per hour and suffered racial discrimination, “but in all, I never gave up. Held on to God,” she said.

Oparaoji disclosed that she was given a childhood pet name that means worthless woman. She said she however worked as a nursing assistant.
According to her, she started her education all over again from English 101 at a community college and worked three jobs while raising three boys despite being in school full time.
She said, “I worked night shifts at a hospital for over 15 years so as to go to school in daytime. I made it. Hard work and determination is the key.” Now that she has bagged her doctorate degree, she said she is the first in her family to achieve such feat.

She expressed gratitude to God for making it possible. She also thanked family and friends as well as her employer for their supports.
She said she got a call from The Academy, Miami, Florida, offering her a job and asking her to send her CV if she was interested. She wrote: “I am pleased to announce to this Honourable House that come Monday, August 3rd 2020, I will no longer be a jobless Nigerian youth and will resume at The Academy, Miami, Florida, USA.”
