NIJ to hold Examination Online, Fixes Date

The Nigerian Institute of journalism has said that the institution will hold its examination online beginning from August 17 this year.

The institution’s Deputy Provost, Dr Dele Omojuyigbe, who made this announcement via WhatsApp platform, urged the students to pay their school fees. He said, “Go and pay your school fees immediately. Your exams will be online. Your exams will be online. It is only those who pay that will have access to registration for the exams. Best wishes.”

Responding to the school decision to hold exams online, the Students Representative Council sent a statement to the school management themed, “Notice of students discomfort towards the second semester online examination.”

The statement read, “I want to use this medium to bring to your attention the pressure from students complaining about their disapproval of the management’s decision to conduct the second semester exams online.

“Sir, we gladly understand the undisputable fact the country and the whole world at large is faced with a situation that has forced us all to seek for alternative measures in dealing with situations that call for immediate attention. Nevertheless, we believe that the all societies cannot deal with the same problem using the same approach, since level of societal development differs.

“In this case of moving the academic session forward irrespective of the pandemic, the students of this very much reputable institution find the sudden decision of the management to conduct online examinations which is beginning from 17th of August 2020, as uncomfortable on the part of the greater percentage of the students.

“Most students have barely managed to participate in the cumbersome and ineffective online classes being wrapped up presently. Most students couldn’t participate due to non-preparedness for the sudden development, thus some had issues with the unavailability of good devices that will aid such, while others had issues of lack of funds to be able to buy the data needed for the heavy data consuming online classes. Also, the percentage of those who reside in areas where network is not available due to the level of technological development of our country are not left out.

“But due to students’ understanding of the situation in the nation which calls for adjustments we have all managed in all capacities to get involved and get acquainted with the courses being taught, although we won’t categorically say it has been a very effective means of impartation in having good knowledge of what we were taught.

Nevertheless, we had all hoped for resumption when there would be physical revision class for all the courses and that would help us get good understanding which would help us sit for and then be more confident in coming out with good grades, especially for the graduating classes.”
