Ongoing reforms in the National Youth Service Scheme NYSC, may see prospective graduates facing prosecution in court, if they fail to turn up for the annual service scheme for their fatherland.
Director-General of NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim made this known on Friday, while signing a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to henceforth activate its powers to prosecute offenders.

According to the NYSC Boss, Section 13 Sub Section 1(a) and (b) empowers the Service Corps to prosecute offenders.
General Ibrahim, who was represented by the Director, Legal Services of the Scheme, Barrister Tijjani Ahmed Ibrahim, lamented that NYSC has been having constraints in prosecuting some of its cases but expressed optimism that the partnership with the NSCDC will bring the situation to an end.
He recalled that NSCDC was instrumental in the discovery and dismantling of a fake NYSC Camp as well as the successful prosecution of the culprits.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi gave assurance that the pact would assist the NYSC achieve its mandate.
Beyond the MOU, there have been divergent views on the relevance of the NYSC programme with many calling for the scrapping.
