Umar Illiya Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has escalated the party’s internal crisis by directing security agencies to arrest factional chairman Ahmed Yayari Mohammed.

This action comes in the wake of allegations that Mohammed’s faction has violated a court order regarding the legitimacy of their leadership within the party.

The feud has intensified, with Damagum recently suspending key party officials, including National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, for purported anti-party activities related to the ongoing discord in Rivers State.

In retaliation, Mohammed’s faction has announced their own suspensions of Damagum and PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, accusing them of undermining the party’s interests in legal disputes affecting the Rivers State chapter.

At a press conference, Acting National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga condemned the actions of Mohammed’s faction as unconstitutional and disrespectful to the court’s ruling.

“We urge all our party members to remain focused and continue supporting the PDP leadership under the Acting National Chairman, H.E. Amb Umar Iliya Damagum, until we achieve a lasting solution to our issues,” Manga stated.

He criticized the behavior of the faction led by Mohammed, asserting that their defiance of party regulations could lead to serious legal repercussions.

“Both affected NWC officers are senior lawyers who should know better how to uphold the sanctity of the organization,” he added.
