Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, has disclosed the rationale behind the club’s decision not to pursue Victor Osimhen last summer.

Osimhen, who impressed with Napoli, was heavily linked with several top European clubs after scoring 26 goals in 32 appearances, contributing significantly to Napoli’s Serie A title.

Ancelotti explained that Real Madrid opted against signing Osimhen because they believed they could compensate for the departure of Karim Benzema by acquiring Jude Bellingham instead.

Benzema had left the club to join Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, leaving a significant void in Real Madrid’s forward line.

In an interview with Radio Serie A, Ancelotti stated, “No (we didn’t sign Osimhen) because I think the club thought that Benzema’s absence could be remedied by purchasing (Jude) Bellingham.”

This decision reflects Real Madrid’s strategic approach to squad building and their confidence in Bellingham’s potential to fill the gap left by Benzema’s departure.
