Afrobeat singer Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has become the artiste with the most streamed African song in the history of the United States.

It was gathered that ‘Calm Down’ displaced CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ which was hitherto the most streamed African song in US history.

The statistic was made known on Friday by an American music data compilation website, via its Twitter page.

It showed Rema’s Calm down as the most streamed Afrobeats song.

The statistics firm tweeted, “@heisrema’s ‘Calm Down’ is now the #1 most streamed Afrobeats song in US history, surpassing @ckay_yo’s ‘love nwantiti’.”

As of the time of filing this report, Rema, 23, had yet to react to his latest achievement.

‘Calm Down’ became the highest-peaking Nigerian song (number three) on US Billboard Hot 100 following a remix with American superstar, Selena Gomez.

The song is also the first African song to top the American radio chart.

Meanwhile, Songs of Nigerian Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, alongside his colleague, Ayra Starr, have been included in the 2023 summer playlist of former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

Recall that the 44th American leader unveiled the playlist via his Twitter handle on Thursday night, with songs of the two Nigerian singers as the only Afrobeat songs on the list.

Burna Boy made it to the list with his song “Sitting On Top Of The World” remix featuring 21 Sãvage, while Ayra Starr made it to the list with her 2023 hit song, ‘Stability’.

Obama tweeted: “Like I do every year, here are some songs I’ve been listening to this summer — a mix of old and new. Look forward to hearing what I’ve missed”
