Fresh facts have emerged on why national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, resigned from his position.
Adamu tendered his resignation on Sunday, according to sources close to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
“We saw it coming, he acted in time to avoid being humiliated out of office. The truth is that trouble has been brewing; it’s been clear that he won’t survive,” a source in the party’s NWC told SaharaReporters on Monday morning.
Adamu had also told the newspaper that he would not speak on his purported resignation until President Bola Tinubu returned from Kenya where the president is attending the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Mr. Adamu was quoted as saying.
It was also gathered that the governors asked Adamu to resign to avoid being sacked at the forthcoming party’s National Executive Committee meeting.

A top source, who was privy to the development, said though the former Governor of Nasarawa State was reluctant to resign, the overwhelming decision of the Governors made him change his decision.
According to credible sources, APC chairman on Monday morning, submitted his letter of resignation to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President.
When contacted, APC spokesperson Felix Morka did not confirm nor deny the report.
“I cannot confirm anything at the moment,” Mr. Morka told PREMIUM TIMES via phone on Monday morning.
However, a source very close to the APC chairman told The PUNCH that, “It is not true. But some people, I learnt, have decided to see him today or tomorrow to pressurise him to resign.”
NWC source disclosed that they were disappointed by the action of the former Nasarawa Governor, who he said did not deem it important to even address them before submitting his resignation letter.
He said: “We just heard the news this evening too like every other person that the chairman has resigned. I understand it was a directive from the presidency. I learnt it was the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, who personally handed over the president’s letter to him.
“But we find his action demeaning. He could have, at least, briefed us as members of the same NWC before taking the decision.
“With his resignation, I don’t think he will be at the meeting tomorrow. In his absence, the Deputy National Chairman for North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, will take over in line with the Constitution. It is the norm that once a national chairman resigns, the deputy national chairman from his zone will take over in an acting capacity. Although we can’t have the official confirmation until tomorrow, my sources are very reliable.”
Meanwhile the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, has taken over the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.
At about 10:40 am on Monday, the Deputy National Chairman led a team of seven other members of the NWC to a meeting in his office.
It was learnt that Kyari’s car was parked in the slot reserved for the National Chairman.
Around 11:20am, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the party’s National Secretary, arrived at the secretariat and joined others in the meeting.
