Gillian Malouw, the pioneering woman who made history as South Africa’s inaugural female submarine navigator, tragically lost her life at sea.

The military has officially confirmed the demise of Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Gillian Malouw, who was among three officers who perished during a fateful incident at sea on Wednesday.

Lt Cdr Malouw met her untimely end alongside Master Warrant Officer William Masela Mathipa and Warrant Officer Mmokwapa Lucas Mojela.

The BBC has reported that these three dedicated submariners were swept from their vessel by towering waves off the coastline near Cape Town.
