WASSCE: COVID-19 Patient Writes Exam from Isolation Centre in Gombe

Gombe State government has revealed that a candidate who tested positive for COVID-19 in the state wrote his first paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from an isolation centre.

The state government made this known on Monday through the Twitter page of the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC), assuring residents that the state was committed to prioritising the education and well-being of every person in the state.

The candidate, a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Gombe, was seen being supervised by an invigilator fully kitted in COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment on the picture that accompanied the tweet.

The tweet which was accompanied with the candidate’s photograph and his standing invigilator reads; “Health and education are a priority in Gombe State.”

The tweet read, “Health and education are a priority in Gombe State.  A final year student of GSSS Gombe tested positive for COVID-19 and was isolated yesterday (Sunday), today (Monday), he is writing Mathematics SSCE while ensuring his invigilator is well protected.”

The Director-General, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, who was  tagged in the post tweeted: “Good work by our colleagues in #Gombe.
