The Lagos state government has said it is committed to a viable water sector, saying it is critical to economic growth as well as the well-being and prosperity of the people.
Executive Secretary, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, LSWRC, Mrs. Funky Adepoju, stated this in her remarks at the two-day stakeholders workshop for table and sachet water producers, drillers and water tanker operators in Lagos state organised by the commission which took place at Alausa, at the weekend.
According to her, water underpins many of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, particularly SDG 6 “which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”
The workshop which has as its theme: ‘Suitable water supply in Lagos: Strengthening the chain’, is also aimed at strengthening the various nodes across the Lagos state water supply chain.
Apart from water producers and other experts in attendance, Prof. (Mrs.) Olayinka Asekun of Chemistry Department, University of Lagos, NAFDAC representative, a Deputy Director, Fagboyo Fakayode, Olawoyin Olayemi, a Water Quality Assurance Manager in C-Way and National President of Association for Table Water Production of Nigeria, ATWAP, Mrs. Clementina Ativie, all delivered papers on different topics relating to water.
