Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, stated that Matawalle received ₦290 billion in allocations, ₦133 billion for local governments, and obtained a loan of ₦105 billion.

Gajam made these comments during an interview with Arise TV, emphasizing that the current administration, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, inherited significant debts related to unpaid gratuities.

“When we came on board, we inherited a government from the present state defence minister (Matawalle). In those four years, they received a fat allocation but we inherited a government with backlog in gratuity,” Gajam asserted.

He also highlighted Governor Lawal’s commitment to improving education and infrastructure, announcing a state of emergency in education to address the dire conditions of over 300 primary schools in the state.

Gajam acknowledged the challenges faced, particularly in primary healthcare amid rising insecurity.

The commissioner assured that Governor Lawal is dedicated to implementing a ₦70,000 minimum wage for civil servants, although he cautioned that simply increasing wages may not resolve the broader economic crisis in Nigeria.

Gajam concluded by emphasizing the need for effective governance and productivity to achieve long-term sustainability in the state’s economy.
