Ibadan Polytechnic is an institution of higher learning in Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria. Founded in 1970, Poly Ibadan is similar to other polytechnics in Nigeria. The institution was established to provide an alternative higher education to universities, particularly in technical skill acquisition.

1. Oba Enitan Ojaja II

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, born October 17, 1974, is a Nigerian accountant and the 51st Ooni of Ife. He succeeded the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who died on July 28, 2015. The Vanguard Newspaper described him as “an astute entrepreneur driven by turning impossibilities to ‘possibilities’”. His reign has been marked by a modern outlook and a number of progressive policies.

The Ọọni is a qualified accountant. He attended Loyola College Ibadan between 1985 and 1991. Afterwards, he attended Ibadan Polytechnic to study Accounting.

In 2002, he led the Federal Government of Nigeria delegation to Canada that enhanced alliances through a partnership with the government of Ondo State on solid mineral.

On October 26, 2015, Adéyẹyè was selected as the king-elect out of 21 contenders to the Ọọ̀ni stool in an announcement by the Governor of Ọ̀ṣun State, Ọ̀gbẹ́ni Rauf Arẹ́gbẹ́ṣọlá. As a prince from the Giesi Family whose turn it was to produce a king, he beat out a number of competitors including his elder brother. Oba Ogunwusi received his Staff of Office from Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola on Monday 7 December 2015 at Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife in the presence of several dignitaries from all walks of life, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. The new king promised to unite the Yorùbás under a peaceful and prosperous reign.

Since his coronation, the king has made news for a number of notable actions and pronouncements including the promise not to re-litigate supremacy battles with other Yorùbá kings. On January 17, 2016, Ọọ̀ni Ògúnwùsi broke a 79-year-old antagonism between the thrones of Ifẹ and Ọ̀yọ́ by visiting the Aláàfin, the first of such visits in eight decades by an Ifẹ monarch. He has instituted a number of progressive causes in Ilé-Ifẹ̀, including a cocoa farm meant to feed thousands of widows in the state.

On June 12, 2016, Ọọni was presented with the key of the City of Sumerset, Franklin Township in New Jersey and honoured with the proclamation of the town of Franklin along side his wife, Olori Wuraola Ogunwusi, the Yeyelua.

Ọọ̀ni Ògúnwùsì hails from Giesi Royal Family, one of the four royal families in Ilé-Ifẹ̀, Osun State, Nigeria. The last Ọọ̀ni from the family was Ọọ̀ni Dérin Ọlọ́gbẹ́nlá (1880-1894). Ọba Ògúnwùsì assumed the title of Òjájá (II). Ojaja (I) was from Agbedegbede Compound, Irẹmọ Quarters (the ancestral home of the Giesi). His father is Prince Rọ́pò Ògúnwùsì, a veteran broadcaster. He is the third son in a family of six. He has three sisters.

He has a daughter, Adéọlá Àánúolúwapọ̀ Ògúnwùsì, born in Ibadan, in May 1994, to Omolara Olatubosun with whom he has been a co-parent.

He was married from 2008 to 2016 to Adebukunola Bombata. He is now currently married to Wuraola Zynab Otiti, a marriage reportedly arranged by the Oracle. The wedding took place in Benin City while the reception held in Ile-Ife.

2. Rauf Aregbesola

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was born on 25th May 1957.

He had his primary and secondary education in Ondo State and later attended Ibadan Polytechnic, studying Mechanical Engineering and graduating in 1980.

His involvement in politics dates back to his undergraduate days when he was Speaker of the Students’ Parliament from 1977 to 1978 of Ibadan Polytechnic, and the President of the Black Nationalist Movement from 1978 to 1980. He was also an active supporter of other progressive students’ movements nationwide, which earned him several awards and memberships.

In June 1990, he became an elected delegate to the SDP Inaugural Local Government Area Congress. In July of the same year, he was also a delegate to its first National Convention in Abuja. As a pro – democracy and human rights activist, he was a major participant in the demilitarisation and pro-democracy struggles of the 1990s.

In the year 2007, Rauf Aregbesola contested for governorship in Osun State on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) and won the election. He was however, not declared winner and therefore appealed against the decision. On November 26, 2010, The Election Appeal Tribunal declared him the winner of the election, leading to his being sworn-in as the governor of Osun State the next day. On August 9, 2014, Rauf Aregbesola was re-elected as the Governor of Osun State for another term of four years.

Ogbeni Rauf, practices Islam and is married to Her Excellency Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola. The union is blessed with children.

3. Shola Allyson

Shola Allyson has her real name as Olushola Allyson-Obaniyi. She is a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, voice coach, counsellor and consultant.

Shola was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Shola Allyson had her primary education at Anglican Primary School and Shams-el-Deen Grammar School, Ikorodu Lagos respectively.

She later attended Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja where she studied Business Studies and obtained an NBTE certificate.

In 1997, she gained admission into Ibadan Polytechnic to study Music Technology, majoring in Voice and minoring in Music. She acquired a Higher National Diploma (HND) degree with an Upper Credit.

Allyson began her music career in 2003 doing the soundtrack for a Yoruba movie. She, later on, released her first-ever album titled Eji Owuro.

Allyson is a multi-dimensional singer whose genre of songs include folk, soul and gospel music with good lyrical presentation.

The highly talented Yoruba superstar has graced several religious concerts and was appointed one of the Judges for MTN Project Fame West Africa audition for five seasons.

Allyson is also a back-up singer. She has done back-up for top Nigerian musicians like Yinka Ayefele, Stella Monye Gbenga Adeboye, Kayode Olajide, Pasuma and others. She has also done jingles, signature tunes, and adverts for TV and radio stations across Nigeria.

The beautiful, creative and versatile young woman has also done several soundtracks including a Yoruba movie, Eji Owuro. The brilliant soundtrack galvanized the movie to record a tremendous success and eventually turned out to be her debut studio album.

It also marked the starting point of Allyson’s full entry into the music industry and over time has worked with key players in the industry like Adekunle Gold, Cobhams Asuquo Tope Alabi, and other singers.

Shola happily got married to Toyin Obaniyi in 2003 and the union is blessed with three lovely children namely Mopelola, Ayobami and Obafunmiwo.

4. Florence Ajimobi

Florence Ajimobi is a Nigerian entrepreneur and wife to the former (late) Executive Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi.

Florence Ajimobi was born on the 5th of April, 1959 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria into the Hajaig family of Lebanon. She grew up in Ibadan City, where she also had her early primary and secondary education. For her primary education, she schooled at Bodija International School and thereafter proceeded to Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ibadan.

She further gained admission into Ibadan Polytechnic, where she graduated with a degree in Secretarial Studies and Management.

Mrs Florence Ajimobi upon graduation from The Polytechnic took up a job at Femi-Johnson and Co, a leading Insurance Brokerage Firm in Ibadan as at the time. She further joined Insight Communications Limited, one of the largest advertising agencies in Nigeria and West Africa founded in 1979 by Biodun Shobanjo. Her next job was with RT Briscoe, an international auto sales firm.

In 1984, she resigned from her corporate career to venture into business, having registered her company, Grandex in 1982 with the help of her husband. The mall, which is located at number 43, M.K.O Abiola Way, Ringroad, Ibadan has over the years, grown to become a major family business with outlets across the country.

While Mrs. Florence Ajimobi hasn’t directly contested for any public office, as the former first lady, she was very active in achieving her husband’s goal for the state.

Mrs. Florence Ajimobi was married to the late governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi. The marriage is blessed with five children, namely; Abisola Kolapo-Kola, Abimbola Ajimobi, Abolaji Ajimobi, Ajibola Ajmobi and Ajijola Oluwa Ajimobi.

Florence is a devoted Christian and member of the Catholic Church while her husband, Abiola is a Muslim.

5. Olatayo Amokade

Olatayo Amokade popularly known as Ijebu is a Nigerian comic actor and movie producer born on May 5, 1979. 

Tayo was born in Ilisan Remo, Ogun state. He obtained a National diploma in Mass Communication at Ibadan polytechnic.

He is known for his comic roles in most Yoruba movies having being introduced into acting through Muyiwa Ademola’s Authentic school of drama. He also worked as a personal assistant for another comic actor, Olaniyi Afonja aka Sanyeri before he came to the limelight with the film “Muniru and Ambali” produced by Tayo Amokade himself, written by Sanyeri and marketed by Adekaz productions.

6. Saheed Osupa

Saheed Osupa is a Nigerian Fuji musician, performer and film actor. His repertoire of Fuji music has won him several awards and honours.

Saheed Osupa was born into a music-loving family in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State but grew up in Ajegunle, Lagos State. His father, Moshood Ajiwere Layeye was a Wéré music artist and also an elder cousin to the legendary Fuji musician Ayinde Barrister. He cites the Ayinde Barrister as his music inspiration.

Saheed Osupa started his primary school education at Saint Mary’s Primary School, Ajegunle, Lagos and his secondary school education at Amuwo Odofin High School, Mile 2, Lagos where he graduated in 1987. In 1992, he completed his National Diploma programme at Ibadan Polytechnic, after studying Business Administration. He is also an alumnus of the American International College where he studied Networking Operations.

Saheed Osupa started music professionally as a teenager in 1983. His rise to stardom came when his first album titled Fuji Fa Disco which was released through Alasco Films and Records was positively received among Fuji music lovers. He has went on to release over 28 studio albums including a 4-in-1 studio album titled Mr. Music, the first of its kind in the Nigerian music industry. In 2008, Saheed Osupa was endorsed as the “King of Fuji Music” by Ayinde Barrister. He has been cited as a role model by both upcoming and popular Fuji artists including Muri Thunder and Kamoru Ishola.

Apart from music, Saheed Osupa is also a film actor and producer. He has starred in over 30 Yoruba films.

7. Mozez Praiz

Mozez Praiz was born on April 3rd in Lagos, Nigeria. He is a model and a sports TV/radio presenter.

Mozez grew up in Lagos where he attended primary and secondary schools. After his scondary school, the first child in a family of nine children, worked at a car wash, sold chin-chin and detergents for his mum on the streets, aside other menial tasks that he got paid for, with food.

He studied Mass communication at Ibadan Polytechnic, and Cinematography, Editing and Set Design at Independent Television Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN).

Mozez has also worked with Daar Communications’ African Independent Television and Smooth FM as a sports anchor. He has modelled for most reputable fashion houses in Nigeria and commercially in South Africa and he is now a Brand Ambassador for Mudi Africa.

Mozez and his wife dated for almost 2 years before they got married in 2006. They have two daughters. Mozez is people oriented, has a strong passion for developing people and is a passionate footballer and almost all sports.

8. Otunba Akin Alabi

Otunba Akin Alabi is a Nigerian internet entrepreneur, politician, philanthropist and Author. He is the founder of Nairabet, Nigeria’s first and largest sports betting website. He has ventured into many businesses and has authored series of business books. In March 2019, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency under the APC party.

Akin Alabi was born on March 31, 1977, in Ibadan. He was born as the last child into the family of Chief and Chief (Mrs) Adediran Alabi in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. He attended the Command Children School, Ibadan and the Federal Government College, Enugu for primary and secondary education respectively. Next, for tertiary education, he moved to Ibadan Polytechnic to study Business Administration. There, he obtained his Higher National Diploma and proceeded to study Marketing in the University of Liverpool, UK. Akin also holds a certificate in Intellectual Property Strategy from Harvard University, Boston, US.

Otunba started by writing and selling books in 2003. Later, he launched his seminar and training company where he taught and consulted for startups. Subsequently, Alabi ventured into publishing. He was publishing Income, a business opportunity newspaper for small business owners. Later on, he started publishing World Soccer News, a weekly sports newspaper.

Akin Alabi is the founder and CEO of Nairabet until he resigned as the CEO in 2018 because of his political aspiration. Nairabet officially began operation in 2009. The Nairabet business idea came to Akin during his visit to the UK. While Akin was in the UK, he went to a betting shop along with his brother who introduced him to the game. 9. Olu Maintain

Olumide Edwards Adegbulu, born September 1976, popularly known by his stage name “Olu Maintain,” is a Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer. He co-founded the musical group known as Maintain with his cousin, Tolu Ogunniyi. Adeboye Bammeke, popularly known as Big Bamo, joined the group, which released six albums between 1998 and 2004 with the hit songs “I Catch Cold”, “Domitila” and “Alo” before they separated in 2004.

He was born in September 1976 in Lagos State, western Nigeria but hails from then Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria. His parents are medical practitioners; his father is a medical doctor and his mother is a nurse.

In 2001, he obtained a diploma certificate in Accountancy from Ibadan Polytechnic but began his music career in 1997, the same year he released his first album, Domitila. The music was aired in October 1998.

On July 27, 2009, he released the album With All Due Respect, Press Play with a hit single titled “What A Man Can Do” featuring Kentro World.

In January 2012, he released a single, “Nawti”, which earned the Nigeria Entertainment Awards for Best Video of The Year and Best Reggae/Dancehall Video of the year at the Nigeria Music Video Awards.

10. Toyin Abraham

Toyin Abraham was born on September 5, 1980, in Auchi, a town in Edo State in southern Nigeria, but spent her early life in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State in southwestern Nigeria.

She went to Osun State Polytechnic Iree from 1999-2002, where She had her Pre- National Diploma, and Ordinary National Diploma.

She obtained a Higher National Diploma in Marketing from Ibadan Polytechnic and was in the same class with Dibie, Toyin Abraham has starred in many movies and recently starred in a movie called Black Val.

She began acting in 2003, when Bukky Wright, a Nigerian film actress, visited Ibadan to shoot a movie. Over the years, Toyin Abraham has produced, directed and featured in several Nigerian films, such as Alani Baba Labake and Ebimi ni.

She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Yoruba film titled Ebimi ni, at the Best of Nollywood Awards (2013) alongside Joke Muyiwa, who was also nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Yoruba film titled Ayitale.
